Welcome message

Dear visitors,

Welcome to the website of the Embassy of Romania in Baku!
In our intention, opening of this website will give new opportunities to those of you interested in much closer contacts with the embassy and will ease your better knowing our activities, the on going bilateral activities and the stage of the Romanian-Azerbaijani relations.
Those interested can also find useful information about visa procedures to enter Romania. As expected, the website will also offer a general image of Romania and its relations with the Republic of Azerbaijan in an attempt to make it the best web based resource on these issues.
Romania was the second to have recognized the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan (on December 11th, 1991) and soon after this (on June 19th, 1992) established diplomatic relations with this country. The Embassy of Romania in Baku was opened on November 3rd, 1998 followed by the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Bucharest, on May 21st, 2001.
During the 20 years that passed since the establishment of diplomatic ties, Romanian-Azerbaijani relations witnessed a remarkable and continuously increasing evolution. As a result of these developments, in 2009, a Joint Declaration on strategic partnership was signed between Romania and the Republic of Azerbaijan and in 2011 - an Action Plan for implementation of the Strategic Partnership between Romania and the Republic of Azerbaijan. These two documents enshrine the outstanding level of their bilateral relations and reveals the remarkable personal relations between the heads of the two states, clearly reiterated during the numerous meetings they held during the last years.

The main objective aimed by us for the near future is to give more substance to the mentioned strategic partnership through our mutual efforts. In this respect, utmost attention will be given to the development of the economic relations, mainly to the cooperation in the energy field. Azerbaijan plays a very important role in the regional energy security, due to the huge oil and gas reserves possessed and Romania is willing to develop the cooperation in this vital sector. Romania, as well as the Republic of Azerbaijan, favors the diversification of the supply sources and transportation corridors for the energy resources. For example, regarding the natural gas sector, such an alternative is the Nabucco project that aims transporting natural gas from the Caspian region to Europe through a new route.

An important role in the expansion of our bilateral relations is played by the cultural and scientific links between our countries. Results registered in this field are encouraging and have the potential to lead to a better understanding between the two peoples. A small contribution in this respect can be brought by the stream of information and images published on the website of our embassy. Any suggestion of yours, aimed at increasing the quality of our information and way of presenting it would be highly appreciated, so we are looking forward to getting in dialogue with you.
We are loking forward to your visits to the website of the Embassy of Romania to Baku!
